Covid-19 Relief Work - 1st & 2nd Wave

1st Wave Relief Work - 2020

From the last week of March 2020 to the fourth week of September 2020, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Salem, as per the guidelines of our Headquarters, actively conducted the COVID 19 Relief Work. During this period, we have distributed Provisions and hygiene kits to about 12,080 poor/ needy families in Salem District. We have spent to the tune of Rs.98,50,000.


We distributed the Provisions and hygiene kits to many families of students studying at the Government/ Panchayat schools, Temple Priests, Corporation / Panchayat Sanitary Workers, Taxi Drivers, Porters at Salem Junction, Painters, Auto drivers, Outsourced Housekeeping staff at Government Hospital, Salem, Watchmen, Sanitary workers in villages, Families of Students in Tribal areas, Septic tank cleaning community, Cobblers, Roadside vendors having puncher shops, tender coconut vendors, Musicians, Street Performers, Crematorium staff, Washermen families, Potters, Migratory Workers, Poor families living in Slums, families of students of our Pudur Tuition Centre - twice and so on.

 

This Noble Work would not have been possible without the wholehearted support of all the donors and various organisations. The donors’ valuable Financial support at every stage was timely and helped us in a big way in carrying out this Relief Work.

 

Our Gratitude to all our Vendors for their timely supplies at very favourable prices that helped us a great deal in saving a lot of time and money. Our Gratitude to our Headquarters for sending Financial Support to carry out this Relief Work.

 

We would like to thank all the Volunteers who helped us at every stage like going for survey, Packing, Loading / Unloading and other related work during the Distribution. We again thank each one of the donors for lending their support towards this cause.

 

“Service to Mankind is Service to God” and that is what each one of the donors has done during this Relief Work by serving Him through these needy people. May The Blessings of Sri Ramakrishna, Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda be showered upon each one of the donors & volunteers and their families. Report of the COVID 2nd Wave Relief Work, 2021

I. Grocery Kit to the Poor and needy

II. Support to Salem Corporation

Lunch (Sambar Rice) distributed to 100 Corporation sanitary workers from 27.3.2020 to 16.5.2020 (51 days). 

Water bottles 11,250 nos handed over to the Commissioner Office for District Police & City Police

Hand Gloves 2,660 and Mask 8,811 nos to distributed to Corporation and Sanitary Workers 


I. Rubber Hand Gloves to Sanitary Workers

At the request of the Commissioner of Salem Corporation, we presented 600 pairs of Rubber Gloves worth Rs.43,000 for the use of Sanitary Staff Members of the Corporation working in Covid-19 affected containment zones and other areas. The Sanitary Inspector received the same on 26.4.2021 at the Ashrama on behalf of the Commissioner of Salem Corporation.

  

II. Patient Cots to Govt. Hospital, Salem

In our Project to assist the local Salem District Administration, we handed over the following to the Dean, Govt Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, Salem as four installments on 19.5.2021 (30 sets), 28.5.2021 (50 sets), 7.6.2021 (30 sets) & 9.6.2021 (40 sets) respectively.  


1. Industrial Laundry Machine (100 kg)   - 1 nos

2. Hospital Plain Steel Cot                      - 150 nos

3. Mattress                                             - 150 nos

4. Pillows                                               - 150 nos

5. Bedspread                                          - 300 nos

6. Pillow cover                                        - 300 nos

7. Sanitizer (500 ml)                               - 500 bottles

8. Infrared Thermometers                               - 10 nos

9. Fingertip Pulse Oximeters                           - 5 nos

10. Face Shields                                             - 60 nos

  

III. Annadana Project

1. Night dinner to Patient attenders, health workers & Ambulance drivers at Salem G.H from 15.5.2021 to 30.6.2021 (47 days)

a.  15.5.2021 to 31.5.2021 (17 days) - 500 persons daily

b.  01.6.2021 to 20.6.2021 (20 days) - 525 persons daily

c.  21.6.2021 &  22.6.2021 (2 days)  - 350 persons daily

d.  23.6.2021 to 27.6.2021 (5 days)  - 450 persons daily

e.  28.6.2021 to 30.6.2021 (3 days)  - 100 persons daily


2. Lunch to Sanitary Workers Salem Corporation (Ward 15) from 24.5.2021 to 27.6.2021 (35 days) - 50 persons daily.

  

In total 24,000 plates of Food served from 15.5.2021 to 30.6.2021 (47 days).


IV. Distribution of Oxygen Concentrators & CPAP Non-invasive Ventilators to Govt Hospitals / Primary Health Centres of Salem District sponsored by the President, British Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, Bedford, UK.

    One Oxygen Concentrator (10 litres) and one CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - presented on 12.7.2021

3. Government Hospital, Omalur, Salem District
    One Oxygen Concentrator (5 litres) and one CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - presented on 12.7.2021

4. Primary Health Centre, Mecheri, Salem District
    One Oxygen Concentrator (5 litres) - presented on 12.7.2021

5. Government Hospital, Mettur Dam, Salem District
    One Oxygen Concentrator (5 litres) and one CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - presented on 12.7.2021

6. Primary Health Centre, Thammampatti, Salem District
    One Oxygen Concentrator (5 litres) and one CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - presented on 13.7.2021

7. Government Hospital, Attur, Salem District
    One Oxygen Concentrator (10 litres) and one CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - presented on 12.7.2021

8. Primary Health Centre, Karumandurai, Salem District (Tribal area)
    One Oxygen Concentrator (5 litres) - presented on 12.7.2021

9. Primary Health Centre, Peravurani, Thanjavur District 
    One CPAP Non-invasive Ventilator - sent by courier on 10.7.2021

  

V. Industrial Laundry Machine to Salem Government Hospital

We have handed over the following to the Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital, Salem:
    a. Industrial Washing Machine 100 kg - 1 nos
    b. Hydro Extractor 50 kg                    - 1 nos
    c. Tumbler Dryer 50 kg                      - 1 nos
    d. SS Soap Soda storage tank             - 1 nos
for the benefit of the poor in-patients including Covid patients admitted in the hospital.

The inaugural function was held on 4.8.2021. Swami Yogirajananda officially handed over the equipment along with the warranty letter to the Dean of the Hospital. Other senior Medical officers were also present. 

The cost of the Industrial Laundry machine with its accessories is Rs.11,65,000/-. The Dean and the RMO earnestly requested the need for this machine in the peak time of pandemic when the hospital was overflowing with covid patients and covid patients were also waiting in the ambulances queued in front of the c ovid Ward. The private hospitals were sending the terminally ill covid patients to the Govt. hospital. Hence there was utter need of this machine.

VI. Medical Equipments to Govt Hospital, Mettur Dam
We have handed the following Medical Equipments and Consumables worth Rs. 3.5 lakhs to the Government Hospital at Mettur Dam, Salem District at the request of Hospital Superintendent.

  Oxygen Mask with bag        - 100 nos

  Oxygen mask Adult/Child   - 433 nos

  Oxygen Flow Meter             - 50 nos

  C-PAP Mask (PAED)           - 50 nos

  B.P.Cuff (Pead)                   - 50 nos

  Paediatric Nasal Prons         - 100 nos

  Vein Detector                      - 4 nos

  Height Scale                        - 2 nos

  Laryngascope Paed              - 5 nos

  Weighing Machine Paed       - 10 nos

  Infrared Thermameter          - 20 nos

 

Swamiji Chaturbhujananda presented the same on 6.9.2021 to the Hospital Superintendent who received the same along with the Senior Staff at the Hospital.


VII. Industrial Laundry Machine to Omalur GH

We have handed over the following to the Government Hospital, Omalur, Salem District on 3.1.2022


·  Industrial Washing Machine 50 kg capacity

·  Hydro Extractor 25kg capacity

·  SS Soap Soda Storage Tank


Omalur (14 kms from Salem) is a panchayat town and headquarters of Omalur Taluk in the Salem District. Omalur Taluk has a population of around 1,91,437. It is surrounded by 30 villages.


VIII. Various Medical equipments to the Government Hospital / Primary Health Centres in Salem District. They were presented on 4.3.2022, 19.3.2022 & 22.3.2022.

 

a. Government Hospital, Omalur, Salem District (17 kms from Salem) 
1. Medical Examination Couch  - 1 nos -  Rs.19,000.

2. Ortho Operation Theatre Table - 1 nos - Rs.4.72 lakhs.
3. Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Machine (with consumables) 1 nos - Rs.4.71 lakhs. (This equipment will be very useful in treating patients with bedsores, diabetic foot, accident wounds etc. and help them in recovering faster)
4. Stainless steel Stretchers - 3 nos - Rs.37,500.

 

b. Upgraded Primary Health Centre, Taramangalam, Salem Dt (22 kms from Salem)
1. Desktop Computer - 2 sets     - Rs.87,000
2. Stretcher - 1 nos                         -       12,500
3. Water dispenser - 2 nos           -      63,000

Total cost of the equipments     -  1,62,500

 

c. Upgraded Primary Health Centre, Karipatti, Salem Dt (21 kms from Salem)

1. Examination Couch               - Rs.22,420
2. Autoclave Machine                 -      18,880
3. Boyles' Apparatus                   -   1,68,000
